FAQs

What will happen before and during the study?

You will arrive at Somnus Sleep Clinic in the evening between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to spend the night in our comfortable, hotel-like clinic.  A sleep technician will greet you and show you to your room then discuss the test with you and answer any questions you may have.  Paperwork may need to be completed.

The technician will apply painless electrodes to the skin of your head and body using an adhesive.  These sensors will measure your specific information, monitoring activities that your body goes through while sleeping.  Our specially trained technicians monitor your sleep all night, gather data, and answer further questions.  You will be awakened the next morning and may leave by 6:00 a.m.  Before leaving the clinic, you will be given a follow-up appointment with one of Somnus Sleep Clinic’s physicians to discuss your test results and treatment options.

What do I need to bring to the study?

You need to bring your driver’s license (or picture ID) and your insurance card(s).  You may also bring a special pillow or blanket.  Pack a light overnight bag including your bathroom essentials and any medication(s) you take at night on a regular basis.

What do I need to do to prepare for the study?

On the day of the study, avoid caffeine (coffee, tea, soda, chocolate) after 12:00 p.m. and try not to nap.  Avoid alcohol unless otherwise discussed with the sleep physician.  Before coming to Somnus Sleep Clinic, wash your hair with shampoo only (do not use conditioner), dry hair and do not apply hair sprays, oils, or gels.  Also, do not apply any body lotion or oil.
