Michael Rack, M.D.
Medical Director

 

After graduating from the University of Iowa College of Medicine and completing a combined Internal Medicine/Psychiatry residency at West Virginia University, Dr. Michael Rack completed a Sleep Medicine fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.  He stayed on as a faculty member for several years at the University of MS Medical Center and obtained accreditation for the University’s Sleep Medicine fellowship.  He became the founding medical director of Somnus Sleep Clinic in 2005, and has served as medical director for a majority of the time since then.  In addition to certification in Sleep Medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Rack is also board certified in Internal Medicine, and Psychiatry (through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology).  In addition to his work at Somnus Sleep Clinic, Dr. Rack also serves as Medical Director of Psychiatry at Merit Health Batesville, and also practices some Internal Medicine there.  Michael Rack, MD, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and is on the board of directors of the Mississippi Sleep Society.  He is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s Department of Psychiatry, and enjoys teaching the psychiatry residents.

Brenda Hines, M.D.
Associate Medical Director

 

Dr. Brenda Hines is a Diplomate of ABPN, Sleep Medicine. She has a special interest in not only obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea, but also insomnia, parasomnias, hypersomnia, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, REM behavior disorder, and circadian rhythm disorders. She treats adults, both women and men of all ages and with various co-morbidities. She also treats children over 5 years of age. Dr. Hines grew up in Mississippi (Yazoo County), and spent most of her adult life in Yazoo City, moving to Madison County approximately 10 years ago. She graduated from Yazoo City High School in 1971, then Mississippi State University in 1975. She taught school in Yazoo City for 3 years before attending The University of Mississippi School of Medicine where she graduated as an M.D. in 1982. She trained in Pediatrics and Family Medicine at UMC, then practiced in Yazoo City and the surrounding areas for many years. She returned to UMC and trained in Psychiatry from 1992 until 1995. Since that time, she has practiced in many different areas in the field of psychiatry. She has been on clinical staff at the University of MS School of Medicine in the Psychiatry Department throughout the years. While training in Psychiatry, Dr. Hines developed a special interest in sleep medicine. She is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Sleep Medicine. She now limits her practice to sleep medicine and is experienced in all aspects of sleep in children and adults of all ages.

Nurse Practitioners

Rachael J. Wilbanks, NP-C

 

Rachael Wilbanks obtained her Associate, Bachelor, and Master of Science in Nursing Degree from Mississippi University for Women. Her nursing back ground includes trauma and home health.  She is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.  Rachael utilizes a team approach to develop treatment plans catering to each individual patient’s needs.  

Hannah Jordan, NP-C

 

Hannah Jordan, Nurse Practitioner, completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Mississippi College in 2012. She then was a pediatric Registered Nurse at Batson Children’s Hospital for four years. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2016. She has a special interest in Sleep Medicine and enjoys treating sleep related disorders in patients of all ages.  

Laura Carroll, CFNP

 

Laura Carroll attended nursing schools at University of Mississippi, Emory University and Mississippi University for Women and attained a Master of Science in Nursing degree.  She is an ANCC board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and her background includes rheumatology and family practice.  She has employed a team approach in seeing new and follow up patients in sleep medicine  since 2014.
